Field Days:




Every year the ARRL sponsors Field Day, where for 24 hours radio amateurs across the globe exercise their
skills and test their gear for communications and emergency services. For some, it's a competition to see who
can make the most contacts. For others, it's a time to test radios etc and make sure everything is still
working and they remember how to operate it. And for some it's just a yearly social gathering to hook back
up with others in the area we haven't seen for awhile.

The ARRL started sponsoring Field Day on the last full weekend in June, but recently they've added another
event called "Winter Field Day" on the last weekend in January. For those in the central latitudes, this may
be pretty similar to the summer variety, but for us up North it can be a VERY different experience.
